The University of Alabama School of Medicine Division of CME provides learning opportunities for practicing physicians. The Division is committed to accelerating the diffusion and adoption of advances in the art and science of medicine in order to assist physicians of all specialties to maintain their competence in the practice of compassionate, effective, and high quality medicine. Educational services of the Division are developed with special focus on the content areas important to primary care practitioners and those reflected by the University of Alabama School of Medicine Centers of Excellence; they are developed with an appreciation for the diversity of learning styles of practitioners. A wide range of innovative methods is employed, including interactive distance learning, print, web-based, and small group learning along with traditional rounds and conferences. The Division is committed to these expected results: physician performance improvement and enhancing patient health outcomes through the use of educational interventions. Results are measured using educational research methodologies, including randomized controlled trials and other qualitative and quantitative measures of change.
